About

Thank you for visiting Motherhood & Words®!

I believe in the power of words to connect people. I’m interested in writing and teaching and motherhood and where these things intersect. On this blog I review motherhood literature, interview authors, check in about my own writing and teaching, and sometimes post about my daughters. I hope you’ll join the discussion!

A little about me:

My first book, Use Your Words: A Writing Guide for Mothers, is just out from Viva Editions. My memoir, Ready for Air: A Journey Through Premature Motherhood, will be published by University of Minnesota Press, Fall 2013. Other recent writing has appeared in Brevity, Literary Mama, and The New York Times online.

I have been helping mothers write the stories they need to write since 2006. I teach at the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, and I also teach my Motherhood & Words class online. I coordinate the annual Motherhood & Words reading and lead the annual Motherhood & Words writing retreat. I am an editor at Literary Mama, and live in Minneapolis with my husband and two daughters.

Thank you for stopping by!
