About

Thank you for visiting Motherhood & Words®!

I believe in the power of words to connect people. I’m interested in writing and teaching and motherhood and where these things intersect. On this blog I review motherhood literature, interview authors, check in about my own writing and teaching, and sometimes post about my daughters. I hope you’ll join the discussion!

A little about me:

I’m the author of Use Your Words: A Writing Guide for Mothers (Viva Editions, 2012) and Ready for Air, a memoir about the premature birth of my daughter (University of Minnesota Press, 2013), and co-author of Silent Running (forthcoming, Triumph Books, April 2015). I teach in Ashland University’s Low-residency MFA program and also online, at the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, and at Madeline Island School of the Arts on Madeline Island, WI.

I have been helping mothers write the stories they need to write since 2006. I coordinate the annual Motherhood & Words reading each spring and lead regular women’s memoir retreats. I also work one-on-one in an editorial capacity with writers of all ability levels. I live in Minneapolis with my husband and two daughters.

Thank you for stopping by!
